Relationships are perhaps the most beautiful and challenging terrain of human experience. In this workshop, based on Vivian Dittmar’s book beziehungsweise, we explore the intricate dynamics of closeness and distance, bonding and autonomy. Many of us unknowingly repeat early attachment patterns, swinging between co-dependence and radical independence. This workshop offers a way out of these patterns—not by rejecting them, but by becoming conscious of them and expanding our capacity to choose.
Through a combination of guided reflection, experiential exercises, and honest dialogue, participants explore how their needs for connection and freedom show up in daily life. You’ll learn to recognize what draws you toward others, what causes you to pull away, and how to navigate those impulses with awareness. This isn’t about fixing yourself or others, but about making space for a new kind of relating—one that is rooted in presence, responsibility, and love.
As the relational field deepens, you’ll gain practical insights into how to cultivate relationships that are both supportive and liberating. Whether you’re in a long-term partnership, navigating friendships, or building community, this workshop invites you into a more conscious, mature way of being in relationship—one that supports personal growth and mutual empowerment. This level is especially transformative for those ready to move beyond old relational survival strategies and into a deeper practice of connection.
This workshop is Level 4 of a 6 part Workshop Series held by Vivian Dittmar.

I no longer feel alone with the sense that economic success alone is not fulfilling. I am
part of a community of people who feel the same way and who have set out to heal old
wounds and cultivate new forms of prosperity: better relationships with ourselves, our
fellow human beings, and our environment. That is truly wonderful!
— Timm, ”True Prosperity” workshop
The course has enabled me to find an inner connection between my needs for
closeness and distance. Step by step, I am now finding this balance in my everyday
relationships. Especially in my partnership, it is becoming easier and at the same time
more intimate.
— Leon Sommerfeldt, The Art of Relating course participant
Vivian has a profound reflection on affect that is not just theoretical, but expressed as a
transformative practice.
— John Vervaeke, author of ‘Awakening from the Meaning Crisis’, professor of
psychology and cognitive science, University of Toronto
The course has totally changed me. I have finally found a way to no longer suppress
difficult feelings.

Before the course: The ship navigates across the sea in a zigzag course, fully loaded
and sluggish, driven by the mind. After the course: I have less fear and, as a result, I am
more myself in everyday life. The ship glides with clear intention, consciously and calmly
through the sea, guided by inspiration, heart intelligence, intuition, and rationality.
— Isabelle Gruber, Inner GPS with Vivian Dittmar course participant
