achaMama respects this abundant land, the forest, and the rivers by bringing deep awareness to the impact that we have on the earth. In accordance with this intention, the eco village uses only bio-degradable soaps and products and insists that every new visitor respects this ecological practice.
The land PachaMama occupies used to be a cattle farm with barely any trees. After having planted thousands of trees the barren land has become a lush forest and continuous efforts are made to maintain and expand it. Trees are only cut in matters of necessity. Only plantation wood (from plantations with good reforestation policies) and fallen trees are used for the various building projects in the village.
PachaMama has established a recycling system for paper, glass, and plastic. All of the organic food material is used for compost in the communal garden.
PachaMama, a Temple of Transformation, allows the exploration of the spiritual search while living harmony with the earth and without disturbing the ecology. At the beginning, when the pioneers of PachaMama were just beginning to establish the community, one of the first acts was planting 2000 trees, the initial step in re-foresting the land and re-creating a healthy ecology.
The community recently began a new project to diversify the forest by reintroducing indigenous trees, recreating the natural ecology that was altered by clear cutting many years ago. Thousands of trees have been planted with the intention to restore the forest and eventually reintroduce species such as the macaw, deer, and various families of monkeys back to the land. This project is part of a spiritual ecological vision to support the healing of mother earth.
