Gurdjieff Sacred DancesGURDJIEFF SACRED DANCES
with Sati
May 27 - 30, 2009
Price: 180 $

G. I. Gurdjieff was an Armenian mystic and composer from the last century. In his adventurous journeys across the Orient he collected dances and music from ancient traditions and temples which inspired him to create a set of “Sacred Movements.”
According to Gurdjieff, the aim of the Movements is to assist the "harmonious development of man," by a method of "combining mind and feeling with the movements of the body, and manifesting them together."
Gurdjieff claimed that all our habitual movements, voluntary or involuntary, are an unconscious transition from one automatic posture to another automatic posture. In ordinary life it is impossible to acquire new a physical posture; the automatism of the thinking is preventing it.
Gurdjieff Sacred Dances are helping to break the cycle of automatism by introducing non-habitual movements and sequences. Taking new, unaccustomed postures enables you to observe yourself from inside and understand how the three centers (moving, emotional and intellectual) function together.
Gurdjieff Movements are practiced as a centering and awareness exercise, that activates the body meridians; and work with coordination and integration of different parts of the body.
We learn that the quality of the movement comes from stillness inside. One could say that the Movements constitute a language that our intellect cannot understand well but to which the body is sensitive.

SatiSati
Sati has worked with Gurdjieff Sacred Dances for 4 years, and for 2 years she has attended intensive Gurdjieff Movements Teachers training in India with Amiyo Devienne. In PachaMama she holds second year regular weekly classes of Gurdjieff Movements, as well as being a regular assistant in various centering and therapy groups.

SweatlodgeSWEATLODGE
May 14, 2009
Price: 40 $

This event is held by the river and families are welcome.
The sweatlodge is an ancient and pure practice with healing powers.
Red hot rocks are placed in the center of a pit inside a small, round, closed tent structure. A fragrant infusion of medicinal herbs is poured over the stones which produce a curative steam. The steam and the structure of the sweatlodge represent the womb, where life begins. The experience is taking the form of ritual ceremony, working respectfully with the essential elements (water, fire, air and earth) to create a powerful purification on many levels. Silence, prayer and tribal music support the journey.

"The Sweat lodge is one of the oldest ceremonies in the world. With it we purify and renew our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body. After the ceremony the vital energy inside us and around us is stronger, fresher and renewed. By returning to the womb of mother earth we cleanse ourselves from all our excessive live and experience new levels of consciousness which bring inner clarity."

Shamata Vipassana means “just sit and be awareness”.
Nothing is outside of you.
If silence happens - excellent,
you are the awareness of silence.
If thoughts happen - excellent,
you are the awareness of thoughts.
If the realization of "no self" happens - excellent,
you are the awareness of "no self".
If the feeling “I am” happens - excellent,
you are the awareness of the feeling “I am”.
If body feelings happen - excellent,
you are the awareness of body feelings.
You are awareness itself.
Everything arises out of you and falls back into you as it does with the Earth itself.
Just sitting silently, doing nothing, the all-embracing awareness
arises from within and covers the whole stage.
No effort, no choice, no doing,

FEEL THE BEAT -
Drumming ... starts noisy, gets groovy
with Nispar
July 20 - 22, 2010
Price: 210 $

Explore rhythms, global beats, and the music of tribal cultures in this percussion workshop. We will open the listening capacity as well as learn about groove theory. The aim is to show the complexity of groove including the silence between the notes. For the beginner as well as the expert, we will experience how music is created.

Drumming
We will learn a variety of techniques on how to play on drums, such as Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and African beats with the help of centered and aware breathing. The practice is accompanied by a theoretical understanding of groove notation and the arranging of rhythmical patterns.
We will use djembes. (The original African djembe had cow or goatskin but we will use djembes with artificial skins that allows us to use them in this sub-tropic climate.)
Congas, bongos, timbales, shakers, woodblocks, bells, snare drums, hi-hats, cajon and clay pots will also be available to create groove patterns. The workshop will teach a way to notate groove patterns (write musical notes) so that every participant will be able to continue after with the w ork.

NisparNispar
Started in 1978 to play drums and began to explore the world of improvisation with different musicians between 1981-83. He was a drummer and background vocalist in the reggae band "One Drop. He left Germany in 1997, expanded his curiosity for different percussion instruments, different styles, and opened the door for more understanding of the mystery of groove.
